Candle Care

What kind of wax do you use?

We use a custom coco/soy blend that is slow burning and creamy.  The addition of coco wax to our soy makes it even more luxurious and beautiful. As always it is non-toxic, paraben free, phthalate free and gluten free.

What kind of wicks to do use?

We use all cotton wicks that are lead free.  We also use ultimate wood wicks in some of our specialty candles.

How should I store my candles?

Candles may discolor or fade when they are exposed to intense light for extended periods as well if stored in warm or humid areas. Candles that contain citrus and vanilla may pull a yellow hue if exposed to these conditions or not used in a timely manner.  This does not affect performance. We do not use any UV inhibitor or stabilizers on purpose. We do not recommend displaying your candles for long periods in direct sunlight, fluorescent lighting or other strong light. Wax will soften in temperatures over 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Store your candles in a cool, dry place if they will be stored for an extended period of time.  Use your candle and enjoy every ounce of it.

How long should I burn my candle?

We fully stand by the 4-hour rule.  Blow out your candle after 4 hours...let it cool...trim your wick...and light again.  This will allow your candle to burn as intended and you will get the most hours from it.  We use a coco/soy blend of wax so some "hang up" on the edges is very normal.  This is accounted for with the wick-size, size of jar and the jar temperature.  The wax should catch up by the time your candle is burned halfway down the jar.  We use premium ingredients, and all our recipes including wax, fragrance, and wicks have been extensively tested together. That being said the rest is in your hands.  Burning in short spurts will cause tunneling and that is just no fun.  Burning for long amounts of time will cause the wick to get too long and your flame too large...and that is never a good idea. Stop burning your candle when 1/4-1/2" of wax remains.

Should I really trim my wick?

100% YES!  Each and every time you light your candle tip it upside down over your sink and give it a snip with some scissors.  No need for anything fancy.  Don't leave those little wick bits in your wax either.  Those are flammable. So many rules but trust us....we know best.  You want a fresh wick every time you light your candle.  If you do not keep your wick trimmed, problems can occur. Wicks of all candles can "mushroom" at the top which can lead to excessive flickering, smoke, and/or soot. Keeping your wick trimmed also makes your candle safer and last longer. Additionally, it can prevent your wick from curling back into the wax.

Why do I see some black puffs of smoke from my flame?

Candles are small combustion engines.  They use fuel and the wick burns the fuel.  Drafts caused by fans, air conditioners, open windows, heaters and even a candle placed in a high traffic area can cause this.  This air flow causes the flame to dance, and it can produce random puffs of smoke.  Keeping your wick trimmed "nice and tidy" will help give you a nice clean burn. Also remember not do any "power burns" where you burn your candle for hours and hours.
